If you use threaded rod there will be more dead space inside the collar. With the end zerks, the bolt has to be fairly tight in the collar to get grease to flow where it's wanted without needing to fill a large space between them. If you have the swingarm zerk, you maybe could use threaded rod and it would work reasonably well although the collar is a fairly snug fit on the OEM bolt. You have to pump a hellacious amount of grease in there to start lubing the bushings. The swingarm zerk goes to the space between the collar and the swingarm bore, between the bushings.
